As I walk through this wicked world
Searchin’ for light in the darkness of insanity
I ask myself, “Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred and misery?
Let’s be real.
Things aren’t exactly going well here.
There are those who believe in science, and safety, and are worried about the physical and mental well-being of others.
There are those who are acting like members of a death cult, willing to sacrifice anybody and everybody it takes to make sure that the 1% continue to be well off.
And there are those who are running a brazen, naked, intellectually and spiritually dishonest grift, leveraging the lack of curiosity of those who are followers in the death cult to simply enrich themselves.
And each time I feel like this inside
There’s one thing I wanna know
What’s so funny ’bout peace, love and understanding?
What’s so funny ’bout peace, love and understanding?
And as I walk on through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong and who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony, sweet harmony?
For every person who is doing their best to try and get us through these “unprecedented times”, we wind up seeing some assclown who doesn’t deserve the attention, well, getting attention for being a yelling, vile, maskless wearing asshole.
There has been a complete abdication of leadership from Washington D.C., which I have ranted about before. Not that I expected any better, but it is still shocking to see the level of vainglorious boasting and narcissism from the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as literally hundreds of thousands have died and millions continue to test positive for COVID-19.
‘Cause each time I feel it slippin’ away
Just makes me wanna cry
What’s so funny ’bout peace, love and understanding?

And I’m not even getting into the fact that we are STILL having marches in the street for Black Lives Matter and wanting to end police brutality, but the police still want to, yanno, kill black people and assault protesters. Although there was the added twist of black ops government thugs grabbing people off the streets of Portland and New York. That was fun.
So where are the strong and who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony, sweet harmony?
I continue to worry that we have reached the end of the country as we know it. I don’t know if we’ll be able to come back from the precipice we find ourselves on. Maybe it is my natural pessimism, and I hope I am proven wrong in November. But I’m finding it hard to hold on.
‘Cause each time I feel it slippin’ away
Just makes me wanna cry
